Reported by lisa_barry@ipsd.org on 5/1/23
At the May 1, 2023 Board of Education meeting, Dr. Louis Lee was appointed as the new Deputy Superintendent for District 204 effective July 1, 2023. For the past three years, Lee has served as the district’s Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. In his new role, Lee will oversee the curriculum and instruction, teaching and learning, and student services departments.
Dr. Adrian B. Talley, superintendent of Indian Prairie School District 204, said Lee was chosen for his ability to collaborate with district administrators as well as implement and coordinate policy and procedures for over 3,000 staff members.
“Dr. Lee is an exemplary educational leader who demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with people,” said Talley. “He demonstrates the ability to listen to multiple perspectives and effectively collaborate in the mission of education for all students.”
During his time as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Lee served as lead negotiator for the current four-year (2022-2026) collective bargaining agreement in place with the Indian Prairie Education Association. In alignment with the District’s five-year strategic plan, Lee worked to increase access to the Human Resources department with the HR In The Buildings program. Lee also established the Grow Your Own Teachers (GYOT) program to combat the ongoing teacher shortage and promote diversity among Indian Prairie teaching staff. In the two years the program has been in existence, over 230 students have participated at the high school level with over 100 students involved in clubs at the middle school level. Lee has presented at numerous state and national conferences on inclusive hiring practices, recruitment strategies, and Indian Prairie’s GYOT program.
Prior to his role in human resources at District 204, Lee served as the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, High Schools since he started in the district in 2014. Before that, he served as principal at Oswego East High School for the 2013-2014 school year— principal at District 204’s Granger Middle School for two years— and associate principal at Lincoln-Way East High School for seven years. Lee also worked at Lewis University as an adjunct professor from 2009-2014 and was a science teacher at Cooke Magnet School in Waukegan School District 60 from 2001-2003.
Lee holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a master's degree in education and a doctorate in educational leadership from Lewis University.
His new position begins July 1. He will replace Doug Eccarius who will serve as the new superintendent of Community Consolidated School District 89 in Glen Ellyn.
