Swatting Call Referencing District 204 School

Reported by lisa_barry@ipsd.org on 4/12/23

Swatting calls have been an issue for schools and school districts throughout the country over the past several months. Today, District 204 was the target of a swatting call, along with several other area schools, and we wanted to make you aware of the situation in the event that this happens in our schools again.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, April 12, 2023, a call was received that is believed to have originated overseas. The caller claimed to be a teacher at Waubonsie Valley High School and was reporting an active threat involving a student offender. When asked additional questions by the dispatcher, the individual hung up. Numerous school administrators, the SRO, and additional APD officers immediately responded and were quickly able to discern this was a hoax. The APD did a complete search of the school and determined it was clear. The entire situation was resolved in under ten minutes and there was no disruption within the building.

As swatting calls continue to occur throughout the country, and are now happening within our local community, we are asking parents to continue the practice of not sharing false information on social media. If an incident occurs in your child’s school, we will make you aware of the details as soon as possible.

Currently no other swatting calls have been attributed to District 204 schools. We appreciate the prompt work of the Aurora Police Department to ensure our schools remain safe.
